Pronouns เป็นอีกเรื่องที่ออกใน ข้อสอบ TOEIC Part 5 บ่อย และถ้าเข้าใจ จำการใช้แต่ละแบบได้ ก็ตอบถูกได้สบายๆ บทความนี้จะพาไปรู้จักกับ Pronoun แต่ละแบบกัน

1. Subject Pronouns
ใช้แทนคำนาม ในตำแหน่ง Subject (ประธาน) ของประโยค เช่น
- He is not certain whether to invest in the property market.
- I invited him to the meeting, but he declined.
2. Object Pronouns
ใช้แทนคำนาม ในตำแหน่ง Object (กรรม) ของประโยค เช่น
- The company invited me to join the management team.
- We really appreciate all the help you gave us last weekend.
3. Possessive Adjectives
จริงๆ ถือเป็น Adjective เพราะนำหน้าคำนาม แต่เป็นการผันตาม Pronoun ที่เป็นเจ้าของคำนามนั้นๆ ก็เลยรวมไว้ในเรื่องเดียวกันเลย
- Customs stopped us and checked our bags for alcohol and cigarettes.
- She thanked the staff for their dedication and enthusiasm.
4. Possessive Pronouns
ใช้แสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ แต่ไม่วางหน้าคำนาม เพราะจะใช้รวบแทนคำนามไปเลย เช่น
- Yours is the room on the top floor, on the left.
(yours = your room) - Nicky and I both have red hair but hers is lighter than mine.
(hers = her hair, mine = my hair)
5. Reflexive Pronouns
มักจะใช้ในตำแหน่ง Object ในกรณีที่ Object นั้นๆ เป็นสิ่งเดียวกับ Subject ของประโยค เช่น
• It was so noisy that we couldn't hear ourselves speak.
หรือใช้เพื่อบอกว่ากระทำ “ด้วยตัวเอง” คนเดียว ไม่มีใครช่วย โดยใช้ตามหลัง by เช่น
• I prepared the whole meal by myself.
หรือใช้เน้นความหมายถึงคน หรือสิ่งที่เรากำลังพูดถึงในประโยค เช่น
• The director of the company wrote to us himself to apologize for
the dreadful service.
