Participles คือ?
 

• V.ไม่แท้ ทำหน้าที่เป็น Adj. ที่ไปขยาย N. 
• มี 2 แบบ คือ 

1. Present Participle (V.ing)
   มักท่องกันว่า -ing ทำเอง
2. Past Participle (V.3)
   มักท่องกันว่า -ed ถูกทำ

• ใช้ยังไงได้บ้าง
      1. ตามหลัง Linking Verbs
      2. วางหน้า Nouns
      3. วางหลัง Nouns

 

วิธีใช้ Participles
 

1. Present Participle (V.ing)

• ตามหลัง Linking Verbs = น่า…
                          LV.         น่าสนใจ
  This movie seems interesting.

           (หนังเรื่องนี้ดูน่าสนใจ)

 

• วางหน้า Nouns มี 2 แบบ
  1. คน สัตว์ สิ่งของ + V.ing = ที่กำลัง...
            ที่กำลังวิ่ง      N.     
       A running boy is cute.
       (เด็กผู้ชายที่กำลังวิ่งอยู่น่ารัก)

 

2. สิ่งของ + V.ing = ที่ใช้สำหรับ…

             ที่ใช้สำหรับวิ่ง     N.     
               The running shoes are mine.
               (รองเท้า

ที่ใช้สำหรับ]วิ่งคู่นั้นเป็นของฉัน)         

 

• วางหลัง Nouns = Nouns นั้น ๆ ทำกริยาเอง
  มักแปลว่า คนที่/ผู้ที่/ที่...

     N.     ที่นั่งอยู่
A man sitting near that table is my brother.
(ผู้ชายที่นั่งใกล้โต๊ะตัวนั้นคือพี่ชายฉันเอง)

**ผู้ชายเป็นคนนั่งเอง ไม่ใช่ถูกนั่ง**

 

2. Past Participle (V.3)

• ตามหลัง Linking Verbs = รู้สึก…
   LV.     รู้สึกทึ่ง
  I’m amazed at how she deals with it.
  (ฉันรู้สึกทึ่งกับวิธีที่เธอรับมือกับมัน) 
  
   
• วางหน้า Nouns = ที่(ถูก)...
    ที่(ถูกทำ)พัง    N.   
  A broken chair should be repaired.
  (เก้าอี้ที่พังควรได้รับการซ่อมแซม)
  **เพราะเก้าอี้ทำตัวเองพังไม่ได้**
  
   
• วางหลัง Nouns = Nouns นั้น ๆ ถูกทำกริยา
  มักแปลว่า ที่/ที่ถูก/ที่ได้รับการ...
        N. ที่(ถูก)กัด
  A girl bitten by a dog went to a hospital.
  (เด็กผู้หญิงที่ถูกหมากัดไปโรงพยาบาลแล้ว)
  **เด็กถูกหมากัด เด็กจึงไม่ใช่คนทํากริยาเอง**

ทริคทำข้อสอบ TOEIC®

Participles ถือเป็นเรื่องที่ออกข้อสอบ TOEIC® บ่อยมากเรื่องหนึ่งเลย
เวลาทำข้อสอบจึงอยากให้สังเกตตรง N. ที่ Participles ไปขยาย
แล้วจะรู้ว่าต้องเติม ing หรือ V.3 แนะนำให้จำตามที่ครูดิวสอนว่า

          “-ing (อิ้ง) ทำเอง -ed (เอ็ด) ถูกทำ”

 

เรื่องสับสนเกี่ยวกับ Participles
 

Present Participle (V.ing) VS. Gerund
ดูเหมือนกันแต่ไม่เหมือนนะ
 

1. 1. Present Participle (V.ing) = Adj. ที่ขยาย N.

          เช่น
                    N.      Adj.     
          A man reading books at a cafe is very kind. 
          (ผู้ชายที่กำลังอ่านหนังสือใจดีมาก)

 

1. 2. Gerund = N. ทำหน้าหลายอย่าง คือ

Subject, Object, Object of Preposition, Subject Complement

                     เช่น

                      N. (Subject)

          Reading books is what I like the most.
          (การอ่านหนังสือคือสิ่งที่ฉันชอบที่สุด)
          Reading เป็น N. ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็น Subject ของประโยค

 

Past Participle (V.3) VS. Past Simple
อย่าสับสน แฝดคนละฝา!

 

1. 1. Past Participle (V.3) = Adj. ที่ขยาย N. 
      เช่น
               Adj.         N.      

                     A repaired chair was sent to a manager.
                     (เก้าอี้ที่ซ่อมแล้วถูกส่งให้กับผู้จัดการ)

        

1. 2. Past Simple = V.2 ที่วางหลัง S. 

เช่น
         V.2

           He repaired a chair.
           (เขาซ่อมเก้าอี้) 

                     **เป็น V.2 ที่บอกว่าเขาซ่อมเก้าอี้ในอดีตแล้ว**

ไม่ได้ทำหน้าที่เป็น Adj. แต่ทำหน้าที่เป็น N. จึงตอบ Gerund

ตอบข้อนั้นเพราะเป็น Present Participle / Past Participle / Gerund / Past Simple  
สังเกตว่าข้อนี้ยังไม่มี V.แท้ ในประโยค ดังนั้นต้องการ V.แท้ จึงตอบ (C) anticipated
ส่วน had to นั้นถือเป็น V. ของประโยค ...that some associates had to attend
